چکیده

A t present, human bronchioloalveolar carcinoma (BAC) is a disease with an evolving definition. The clinical concept of BAC needs to be re-evaluated with careful attention to the 2004 World Health Organization (WHO) criteria [1] due to major clinical implications. Series published in the literature before 2000, i.e. before the WHO definition of BAC, had not discerned a specific survival advantage and clinical behaviour for BAC as compared with other nonsmall cell lung cancers (NSCLC). Instead, existing data indicate that patients with solitary small peripheral BAC, characterised by pure lepidic growth pattern with no evidence of stromal vascular or pleural invasion, represent only 2–6% of NSCLC diseases and have 100% 5-yr survival. This survival advantage may be extended to the micro-invasive BAC according to Japanese observations [2].

Telomerase activation in a model of lung adenocarcinoma.

Ovine pulmonary adenocarcinoma (OPA) is a lung cancer strikingly similar to the pneumonic-type mixed invasive adenocarcinoma with a predominant bronchioloalveolar component in humans. Telomerase activity in OPA and the potential involvement of the kinase Akt in telomerase activation and regulation of cell proliferation were investigated. Lung tissues were collected from sheep with a histopathol...

TELOMERASEACTIVITYIN IRANIAN PATIENTS WITH ESOPHAGEAL SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA

Telomerase activation is one of the main pathways to immortalize cancer cells. In many kinds of cancer cells, this special reverse transcriptase stabilizes and elongates telomeres and prevents telomere erosion that naturally occurs in every cell division. Esophageal cancer is the fifth most frequent cause of cancer death worldwide, and is highly associated with alcohol, smoking, cultural ha...

Introduction & Objective: The roles of tumor markers in the prognosis and diagnosis of lung cancer is under investigation. The aim of this study was to examine correlation between serum levels of Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) and Cyfra 21-1 with telomerase activity on biopsy samples in patients with lung cancer and controls. Materials & Methods: We studied 50 malignant lung cancer patients ...

Jaagsiekte Sheep Retrovirus (JSRV): from virus to lung cancer in sheep.

Jaagsiekte Sheep Retrovirus (JSRV) is a betaretrovirus infecting sheep. This virus is responsible for a pulmonary adenocarcinoma, by transformation of epithelial cells from the bronchioli and alveoli. This animal cancer is similar to human bronchioloalveolar cancer (BAC), a specific form of human lung cancer for which a viral aetiology has not yet been identified. JSRV interacts with target cel...

Telomerase Activity Levels in the Surgical Margin and Tumour Distant Tissue of the Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Head-And-Neck

The survival of patients with a head-and-neck squamous cell carcinoma is determined by loco-regional recurrence and second primary carcinomas. As a complement to histopathology, molecular changes of tumour marginal and tumour distant tissue may confirm curative surgical tumour extirpation. We tested telomerase activity with PCR-ELISA kits.20 tumour margin biopsies were chosen by the surgeon fro...
